Dave Maddocks Promoted to Director of Finance and Accounting
Dave Maddocks was recently promoted to Director of Finance and Accounting for Brinkman Construction.
Dave holds a master’s and bachelor’s degree in Accounting from the University of Northern Colorado.
Dave spent the first part of his career in public accounting and auditing for government institutions before joining Brinkman Construction to lead the company’s accounting team in financial analysis and budgeting.
In his new position as Director of Finance and Accounting, Dave will lead forecasting and financial analysis, as well as implementing programs to increase financial literacy across the organization and maximize return on financial assets by improving financial policies, procedures, controls, and reporting systems.
Modern Traveler-Focused Hotel Breaks Ground in Westminster
Developer Brinkman and Colmena Group just broke ground on aLoft at The Orchard Town Center in Westminster, Colo. The limited-service hotel with 120 guest rooms includes an outdoor pool, spa, full-service bar, meeting space, business center and fitness facility.
Amenities of the five-story, 67,000 SF hotel include flexible in-room layouts, a bar with live music from local and emerging artists, 24/7 snack and drink shop and high-tech capabilities like service requests straight from your smart phone.
The hotel is located within the Orchard Town Center which is an open-air shopping, dining and entertainment destination. The Center features numerous restaurants, an AMC theater, 300 multi-family units, REI and Lifetime Fitness center. It sits directly north of the St. Anthony North Health Campus, west of the Amazon Fulfillment center and northwest of the Denver Premium Outlets.
aLoft Hotels, a Marriott flag, has 140 hotels across 20 countries and five continents. With the tagline, “where travel breaks the mold,” this line of boutique hotels caters to the next generation of travelers with its urban, modern design and social experience at an affordable price.
This is the seventh project Brinkman and Colmena have partnered on and the second Marriott product. They will be delivering a TownPlace Suites by Marriott in downtown Loveland’s The Foundry project.
Brinkman Construction is the general contractor and WORTHGROUP designed the project. Norris Design is handling the landscape architecture, Ware Malcomb is the civil engineer and Renascent Hospitality will be the hotel’s operator. UMB is providing financing for the project.
The $24 million aLoft is projecting a summer 2020 completion.
Construction Completed on Traditions at Colorado Springs
With a shortfall of affordable housing upwards of 20,000 units, it’s no surprise that Washington-based developer Inland Group chose Colorado Springs as the location for their newest affordable senior living community, Traditions at Colorado Springs.
Brinkman Construction completed the four-story, 166,000 SF community. The complex includes 180 units consisting of studio, one- and two-bedrooms. Community amenities onsite include a community garden, dog park, fire pit, theater, craft room and library.
Apartment homes are being rented to seniors age 55 and older who earn less than 60 percent of the area median income adjusted for household size. In addition, eighteen of the units will be targeted at individuals whose income is less than half of the average median income.
The project utilized Low Income Housing Tax Credits which is a program through the federal government that provides dollar-for-dollar tax credits for investments in affordable housing. This program accounts for approximately 90% of all affordable rental housing in the U.S.
This marks the third project that Inland and Brinkman Construction have worked on together. Copper Stone in Lafayette will be completed next month and Affinity Fort Collins opened in 2017.
Brinkman Construction and Trade Partners Complete “Front Door of Community”
As Brinkman Construction continues its strategic growth, the company hasn’t outgrown the “small” projects.
Case in point: the new and improved Fort Collins Visitor Center at 1 Old Town Square. This fast-tracked project began in September and wrapped up less than two short months later with a fully customized build-out for Visit Fort Collins.
In addition to the condensed timeline, Visit Fort Collins completed this project with an extremely limited budget due to the donated time and materials from Brinkman Construction and their trade partners.
“We really felt that Visit Fort Collins was the front door of our community and by contributing to their success, it’s a win-win for all of us,” said Jim Ciesla, President and CEO of Brinkman Construction. “We thought we’d have to sell it to our subcontractors, but they not only came through with donated time and materials, but also mobilized immediately to meet our timeline. It was remarkable.”
The construction company launched a Special Projects Division in 2018 aimed at serving clients like Visit Fort Collins that are in need of tenant finish, renovation and core/shell services. These clients don’t have large-scale construction needs, but they want a high level of service and professionalism.
The new Fort Collins Visitor Center includes a fully customized interior design by VFLA and installations from local makers throughout the space. The focal point of the center is the seven by nine-foot interactive map on the wall created and installed by Reprographics that will be used to guide visitors to their destinations. The shelving, tables and signage throughout the space were also created by local makers including Wool Hat Furniture who utilized wood from the former Hughes Stadium to make the coffee table.
The trade partners included Air Comfort, Commercial Glass, Acoustics & Interiors, Maximum Painting, Masters Flooring, Distinctive Welding, and Merit Electric.
“This really has been quite the journey,” said Visit Fort Collins Director Cynthia Eichler. “We’re proud to have a fresh appearance to greet visitors and a new platform to tell the story of Fort Collins as we see it from the inside out.”

Jim Ciesla has been in the construction industry for over two decades. Prior to relocated to Colorado, he spent seven years working for a national design-build development and construction company out of Arizona.
He has been with Brinkman Construction for the company's entire 13-year history and is now an original owner.

StoneCreek Assisted Living, Memory Care Aims to Fill Gap for Littleton's Aging Population
Brinkman construction broke ground on StoneCreek, a 74,00-square-foot as-sisted living and memory care facility, in Littleton. It plans to complete construction in 12 months. Arrive Architecture designed the project for owner StoneCreak Real Estate Partners LLC.
The state-of-the-art facility will include 78 units across two wings – one for assisted living and one for memory care.
In addition to the living units, there will be offices for professional staff to be on-site 24/7 to provide assistance, common space for a variety of social opportunities for residents to stay physically and mentally engaged, and dining areas for three chef-prepared meals a day.
Downtown Fort Collins Housing for Low-Income Seniors Getting Major Renovation
The 11-story apartment building for low-income seniors located in Old Town Fort Collins will be getting a face-lift soon. This top-to-bottom renovation by general contractor, Brinkman Construction, will be the first to take place in nearly a half-century of existence.
The tall, white building at 300 Remington known as DMA Plaza will be stripped down to its studs as part of a $16 million renovation. Construction will begin in January and will be paid for by tax credits, the city, and the Colorado Division of Housing.
While their units are renovated, residents will be relocated to vacant apartments within the same building where they are expected to stay for about six months. Work will begin with the top three floors of the building and progress will move downward as floors are completed.
Advanced Vision Surgery Center Opens in Longmont
Advanced Vision Surgery Center, the 10,230-square-foot medical office building in Longmont, Colo., has officially opened.
The partnership by several eye physicians, including Joel S. Myers, MD, includes medical offices, two operating rooms, offers Lasik procedures, corneal transplants, retinal surgery, and eye and face plastic surgery.
Dr. Meyers specializes in cosmetic and reconstructive eye and facial plastic surgery.
Brinkman Construction Unveils New Branding
Fort Collins-based contractor, Brinkman Construction, has completed a rebranding effort that includes not only a logo but a total website refresh, too.
First unveiled to employees last week, the new branding is aimed at highlighting the company's core mission and vision.
Within the logo, the new brand includes an elk, which represents endurance, strength, and patience.
Two Brinkman Team Members Selected for Leadership Fort Collins Class
Thirty-four current and emerging leaders were recently selected to participate in the 2018-2019 Leadership Fort Collins program. The group is a diverse mix of professions with representative from education, large and small business, not for profit and government.
Maral Jalili, Brinkman Construction team member, and Shannon Stearman, Brinkman team member, were selected for the class.
